There is a letter attached to rear of the painting from Charles Dixon of 41 Birdham, Itchenor, Chichester and dated 11th March 1931 and it reads : Dear Mr Colbourne, Here is an original twas reproduced in Land & Water but I have worked on it since and think improved it. Charles Dixon exhibited 52 paintings at the Royal Academy, 23 at the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool and 170 at the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours. He is best known for his paintings of the Thames Estuary and of naval battles.
