Albert Moulton Foweraker was born in Exeter and studied art following his university education at Cambridge. He exhibited paintings between 1898 and 1912 at the Royal Society of British Artists, the Royal Academy, the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, and the Royal Society of Artists, Birmingham. The artist specialised in landscapes set during the dark and produced many watercolours of Dorset, Devon and Cornwall, featuring either a figure carrying a lamp or a light shining from a building. He also travelled to Spain, France and North Africa and continued with this night theme on some of his works. The above watercolour of The River Bed in Malaga was painted during one of his frequent trips to Spain in the early 1900s.
