Andreas Schelfhout was a forerunner of the Hague School and became one of the most influential Dutch landscape artists of his century with his paintings of winter canal scenes and skaters. His paintings are held by many museums throughout the world including The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, The National Gallery in London and The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
