Charles Arthur Wheeler (1880-1977) was a leading Australian painter during the 1910 to 1930 period. He was born in New Zealand but moved to Melbourne in 1891 following the death of his father. His successful studies and early exhibitions resulted in his paintings being purchased by The National Art Gallery of New South Wales and by The National Gallery of Victoria in 1910. Two years later, he moved to London and exhibited paintings in Paris and in the Royal Academy. He returned to Melbourne in 1920 and many of his paintings are now held in collections of museums and galleries in Australia.
