Henry Crowther was an equestrian and sporting artist whose work developed over his long career. He first exhibited in 1875 at the Royal Pavilion Gallery in Brighton, and then at the Royal Academy from 1876 to 1898. He concentrated on dog paintings from 1900 until 1933. His details are recorded in the book, Dictionary of Sporting Artists (1650-1990) by M.A. Wingfield. This painting is an oil on canvasboard and on the rear has the original label of Winsor & Newton of Rathbone Place, London.
