D'OYLY JOHN (1906-1993)
Caribbean beach
D'Oyly-John took a commission with the Provost Corps at the outbreak of World War 2, but was badly wounded by a bomb in 1945. During his convalescence, he took up painting and discovered a genius for the use of vivid colours in producing brilliant paintings of the South of France and other desirable places in which to live. His full name was Cecil Rochfort D'oyly John (sometimes recorded as Doyly-John). He lived in Brighton and later moved to Rottingdean. A number of his paintings were acquired by the late HM Queen Mother for the Royal Collection. For further information, see http://www.doylyjohn.co.uk/
