Eugenio Zampighi was born in Modena and won scholarships at an early age to study painting in Rome and Florence. In 1884 he settled in Florence and began to paint the domestic interior subjects for which he is renowned. His paintings are sought after by collectors worldwide and three can be seen in the Museum of Modern Art of Modena in Italy. This painting is typical in its technical virtuosity and harmonious depiction of family life.
