Albert Moulton Foweraker exhibited paintings between 1898 and 1912 in London, Birmingham and Liverpool. He was born in Exeter and was highly intelligent, obtaining two First Class degrees at Cambridge University by 1896. Then, following an accident, he became an artist and concentrated on moonlight paintings of landscapes and towns in Spain and in the West Country ( Dorset, Devon and Cornwall.) His moonlight paintings are known for his use of the colour blue and for people carrying lanterns or for showing lights shining from windows in town buildings.
This present work for sale, shows four lights shining in houses – Antequera is a small city in Andalusia, Southern Spain. The painting is over 100 years old and although there has been some recent development, Antequera remains known as The Heart of Andalusia to the Spanish, or as the Florence of Andalusia to the romantics.
